Google My Business is a free tool that can help you manage how your business appears to potential customers in Google searches and Maps. It needs to be set up through your own Gmail account, and verified by you, so it is not something we can take on for you. 

With that being said, we do recommend it to all clients and this guide will take you through the set up process. You can add your business name, location and website as well as start collecting reviews. 

It's important to set up your Google My Business profile with your Avenue website, rather than your brokerage site or Zillow profile, as it is designed to showcase your brand and business in the most attractive way. Follow the steps below to sign up and verify your account. 

Step 1: Log into the Google Account you want associated with your business. If you have had a G-Suite solution set up through Avenue, you can use your domain driven email. 

If you don't have a Gmail account, you can set one up quickly following these instructions.

Step 2: Go to google.com/business and select 'Start now'. 

Step 3: Enter your business name.

Step 4: If you want to verify your location, you can enter your brokerage address as your business address. If you would prefer not to add a location, you can just select an area or city that you serve. Or if you work out of an office space, ensure to put that in.

Step 5: Select your industry (Real Estate). 

Step 6: Input your business phone number and website URL. Again, it is important to use your Avenue website here.

Step 7: Click through to 'Finish' to verify your business.  There are a number of ways to verify your Google My Business Listing: 

  • By mail 
  • By email

Mail Verification: This is the most common method used, and requires you to enter your business address so that Google can send a postcard to it. You should use your brokerage address, and the postcard will arrive within five days. 

When you receive your postcard, log in to Google My Business and hit 'Verify now.' In the code field, enter the five digit verification code on your postcard. Click "Submit". 

Email Verification: You may be offered to verify your Google My Business registration by email. If you're eligible, you will see the "Verify by email" option. 

Make sure your email address is correct, and hit "Verify by email." Then open the corresponding inbox, and click the verification button in the email from Google My Business. 

That's it! You can now use Google to collect reviews, and an information panel with your photos, website links and contact details will appear on the right side panel for anyone searching your name.
